Harriet Martens is a woman among men, many men, in male dominated structures. She is always challenged to hold her ground. Although she is clever and has got a feeling for her cases leading her in the right direction to solve the crime and convict the evildoer she is always stressed and struggles to overcome all the obstacles of daily life in a police organization. Her cases are complex dealing with murder and other capital crime. It grants her the nickname The Hard Detective. Often she has to decide if to step on the toes of somebody important and influential or try to investigate until the end. The novels expose a great deal of her private life – and the cases take their toll of her as a woman in charge as well as a family member.
