Sonchai Jitpleecheep is a detective in Bangkok. His mother is Thai, a self-confident retired prostitute starting a new business in Bangkok’s red-light district – Sonchai’s main playground. His father, an American, was a GI in Vietnam who vanished from the scene like the wind. Sonchai became a police detective … and a buddhist. He is confronted with strange murder cases and risks his life more than once, however, he also manages to start a family life. Sonchai tells us about his cases and adventures filling us also in Buddhist thinking and the Thai way of life – sometimes far from Western principles.

Sonchai Jitpleecheep ist Kriminalbeamter in Bangkok. Er wird mit außergewöhnlichen Mordfällen konfrontiert und riskiert mehr als einmal sein Leben, schafft es aber auch, ein Familienleben zu gründen. Sonchai erzählt uns selbst von seinen Fällen und seinen Aktivitäten, die uns auch in das buddhistische Denken und die thailändische Lebensweise einführen – manchmal weit entfernt von westlichen Prinzipien.
